March 25 (Bloomberg) -- Baylor University opened defense of its women’s college basketball title with a 82-40 rout of Prairie View A&M in the first round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament.

Brittney Griner had 33 points, 10 rebounds, six blocked shots and even had a dunk yesterday in Waco, Texas, as the Lady Bears (33-1) won their 31st straight game.

The tournament’s No. 1 overall seed, Baylor advances to face eighth-seeded Florida State tomorrow. Fellow No. 1 regional seeds Stanford University and Notre Dame University also advanced yesterday, with Stanford beating Tulsa 72-56 and Notre Dame rolling past Tennessee-Martin 97-64.

The higher-ranked team won 15 of yesterday’s 16 first-round games in the women’s NCAA tournament. The exception was the ninth-seeded University of Iowa topping No. 8 Miami 69-53.

A pair of regional No. 2 seeds, Duke University and the University of Kentucky, advanced along with No. 3 seeds North Carolina and Penn State.
