Austrian Skier Marcel Hirscher Clinches World Cup Slalom Title

March 10 (Bloomberg) -- Marcel Hirscher of Austria clinched skiing’s World Cup slalom title with a second-place finish in the latest round at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

Croatia’s Ivica Kostelic won today’s event, with Mario Matt of Austria third. Hirscher also increased his lead in the overall World Cup standings to 149 points over Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway.

Yesterday Ted Ligety of the U.S. clinched his fourth World Cup giant slalom season title by winning the latest competition. He’s third overall, 304 behind Svindal.

Slovenia’s Tina Maze won the women’s slalom in Ofterschwang, Germany, today to move atop the category standings. Wendy Holdener of Switzerland was second and Mikaela Shiffrin of the U.S. third.

Previous leader Shiffrin drops to second in the slalom event, seven points behind Maze, who’s already assured of the overall women’s title.
