March 9 (Bloomberg) -- Centuries from Alastair Cook and Nick Compton led an England comeback on day four of the opening cricket Test against New Zealand.
Cook and Comption put on 231 for the first wicket as England reached 234-1 at stumps in Dunedin to trail by 59 runs. Cook scored 116 before behind caught by BJ Watling from Trent Boult, while Comptom is 102 not out.
England was put into bat after New Zealand declared at 460-9 to lead by 293 runs after the visitor’s opening innings 167. Hamish Rutherford top-scored for the host with 171.
