March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Tottenham beat Arsenal 2-1 today in English soccer’s Premier League to boost its chances of qualifying for Europe’s Champions League.
Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon scored for Tottenham in the first half of the north London derby at White Hart Lane. Per Mertesacker got a 51st-minute goal for the visitors.
The result leaves Tottenham in third spot and stretches its gap on Arsenal to seven points. Leader Manchester United has 71 points, defending champion Manchester City 56, Tottenham 54, Chelsea 52 and Arsenal 47.
