Canadian Average Weekly Earnings Rose 2.8 Percent in December

Feb. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Canadian average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees rose 2.8 percent in December from a year earlier, up from a revised pace of 2.7 percent in November.

On a monthly basis, earnings rose 0.3 percent to C$908.35 ($885.16), Statistics Canada said today in Ottawa. The average workweek was 32.8 hours in December, unchanged from a year earlier and down from 33.1 hours in November.

Payroll employment was 15.30 million in December, down 0.1 percent from a month earlier and an increase of 1.6 percent from a year earlier.

Statistics Canada’s main employment report, the labor force survey of households, reported a 39,800 job gain in December and a loss of 21,900 in January.
