IDE Agrees to Work With Statkraft on Norway Osmotic Power Plant

IDE Technologies Ltd., an Israeli water technology developer, plans to work with Statkraft AS to design an osmotic power-generation pilot plant in Norway, the first of its kind to generate clean energy by mixing seawater and freshwater.

The 2-megawatt pilot plant in Sunndalsora, central Norway, will be developed by IDE using technologies based on desalination and an energy-recovery system that reduces costs while increasing net output, the company said in a statement.

Osmotic energy technology, used by Statkraft at a prototype facility in Tofte, Norway, enables clean-power production at any place where rivers and lakes meet the sea, according to today’s statement. No terms were disclosed.
