Feb. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Ghana defeated Cape Verde 2-0 in the quarterfinals of soccer’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Mubarak Wakaso had both goals for Ghana in Port Elizabeth. South Africa. He opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 54th minute and clinched the victory in second-half stoppage time on a counterattack as Cape Verde pushed for the tying goal.
Ghana advances to the Feb. 6 semifinals against the winner of tomorrow’s match between Burkina Faso and Togo. Host South Africa meets Mali in today’s other quarterfinal, with the winner facing Ivory Coast or Nigeria.
