Jan. 30 (Bloomberg) -- NYSE Euronext Amsterdam may close the exchange on Queen’s Day April 30 because of festivities in Amsterdam related to the abdication of Queen Beatrix and crowning of Prince Willem-Alexander as king.
“We’ve taken notice of the crowning April 30 and we will deliberate on whether or not to open the exchange that day,” Rineke Reitsma, an Amsterdam-based spokeswoman of NYSE Euronext, said in an e-mail.
About 700,000 people visited Amsterdam on Queen’s Day last year, according to the city’s website.
The exchange is located only 300 meters (984 feet) from the Dam Square where the abdication ceremony will take place in the Royal Palace. The crowning of Willem-Alexander will happen in De Nieuwe Kerk, which is also located close to the Exchange.
