Jan. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Defending champion Victoria Azarenka defeated American teenager Sloane Stephens to reach the Australian Open final, where she will face Li Na of China.
The top-seeded Azarenka, from Belarus, won 6-1, 6-4 against the 19-year-old Stephens, who reached the semifinals by upsetting fellow American Serena Williams yesterday.
Stephens, seeded 29th, lost seven of her nine service games in the match. Azarenka won on her sixth match point.
The sixth-seeded Li reached the women’s final with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of second-seeded Maria Sharapova, who had not lost a set in five previous matches in the tournament.
