Czech, Slovak Day-Ahead Electricity Jumps as German Prices Rise

Jan. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Day-ahead electricity in the Czech Republic and Slovakia rose as German prices increased to the highest level in more than a month.

Day-ahead electricity on the coupled markets of the Czech Republic and Slovakia jumped 18 percent to 58.55 euros ($77.77) a megawatt-hour in a daily auction, according to the countries’ market operators. Data on Polish day-ahead baseload power from the Warsaw-based exchange were not available.

Electricity for tomorrow in Germany climbed 4.6 percent to 59.50 euros a megawatt-hour, the highest level since Dec. 12, according to broker data on Bloomberg.

Czech power for 2014 fell 0.7 percent to 41.55 euros a megawatt-hour, the lowest level since the contract started trading in February 2012, broker data on Bloomberg show.
