Jan. 15 (Bloomberg) -- A military train heading from Cairo to Sinai derailed near the Giza neighborhood of Badrashin early today, leaving at least 19 dead and 107 injured, the state-run Middle East News Agency reported, citing Ahmed Omar, a spokesman for the health ministry.
The train was carrying 1,328 young recruits when the incident took place shortly after midnight, Ahram Gate said, citing security officials.
The incident comes less than two months after around 50 children were killed when their bus was hit by a train as it drove over a railway crossing in the Assiut village of Manfalout, Upper Egypt, Ahram Gate said
