Egypt Approves Reconciling With Mubarak in Corruption Charges

Egypt’s Public Funds Prosecution has approved a request by ousted president Hosni Mubarak to pay 18 million pounds to settle charges related to the alleged embezzlement of public funds, Ahram gate reported, citing Attorney-General Mostafa El-Husseiny.

Mubarak was remanded on Jan. 11 for 15 days pending investigation into the case known as “Ahram gifts” in which the former president is facing charges of appropriating public funds in the form of watches, pens, bags, belts and jewelry he received from the official Al Ahram newspaper.
