Jan. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Carmelo Anthony scored 40 points as the New York Knicks handed the Orlando Magic their eighth straight loss with a 114-106 National Basketball Association victory.
The Knicks (23-10) top the Eastern Conference’s five-team Atlantic Division, 4 1/2 games ahead of the Brooklyn Nets (19-15) who defeated the Sacramento Kings 113-93 last night.
The Knicks had a 59-55 advantage at halftime and then trailed 89-81 at the end of the third quarter. They outscored the Magic 33-17 in the final period at Amway Center in Orlando.
J.R. Smith came off the bench to score 18 points for the Knicks, Jason Kidd added 15 points and Tyson Chandler had 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Jameer Nelson and Arron Afflalo each had 29 points for the Magic (12-21), who had 14 turnovers that the Knicks converted into 23 points.
The Magic are in fourth place in the five team Southeast Division, 14 1/2 points behind the Miami Heat (22-9).
