Boise State Beats Washington in Maaco Bowl; Louisiana Wins

Dec. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Michael Frisina kicked a 27-yard field goal with 76 seconds remaining to give Boise State University a 28-26 victory over the University of Washington in college football’s Maaco Bowl.

In the New Orleans Bowl, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette defeated East Carolina University 43-34.

At Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Frisina gave Boise State a 3-0 lead with a 34-yard field goal. Washington’s Travis Coons had a 26-yard field goal to tie the score before Joe Southwick connected on a 16-yard touchdown pass to Geraldo Boldewijn for the Broncos’ 9-3 first-quarter lead.

Boise State (11-2) took an 18-17 halftime lead on Frisina’s 30-yard field goal and Chris Potter’s 34-yard scoring pass to Holden Huff. The Huskies (7-6) ended the second quarter with Bishop Sankey’s 26-yard run followed by Keith Price’s seven-yard scoring rush.

Price connected with Austin Seferian-Jenkins on a six-yard throw and Coons kicked a 38-yard field goal to take a 26-25 lead before Frisina kicked the game-winning field goal.

Southwick completed 26 of 38 passing attempts for 264 yards and two touchdowns. Price went 20 of 39 for 242 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

At the Superdome in New Orleans, Alonzo Harris ran for back-to-back touchdowns in the second quarter, while Terrance Broadway and Harry Peoples added rushing scores in the half to give the Ragin’ Cajuns (9-4) a 31-21 lead.

Shane Carden threw two touchdown passes and Reggie Bullock scored on a five-yard run for the Pirates (8-5) in the first half.

Field Goal

Warren Harvey kicked a 45-yard field goal and Bullock reached the goal-line on a 13-yard run to tie the score at 31-31 in the third quarter. Broadway hit Javone Lawson with a 14-yard scoring pass to regain the lead for Louisiana.

Harvey kicked a 26-yard field goal in the final quarter before Brett Baer sealed the win with consecutive kicks of 25 and 40 yards.

Broadway completed 21 passes for 316 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Carden connected on 25 passes for 278 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
