Dec. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Blake Bortles threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth as the University of Central Florida defeated Ball State University 38-17 in college football’s Beef ’O’ Brady’s Bowl.
Bortles hit Latavius Murray with a seven-yard pass in the first quarter. Murray sprinted two yards for the next score to give UCF a 13-0 first-quarter advantage. Bortles then ran six yards for a touchdown before reaching Murray with a five-yard scoring pass as the Knights (10-4) took a 28-7 halftime lead.
J.J. Worton caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Bortles in the third quarter and Shawn Moffitt kicked a 25-yard field goal at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Bortles completed 22 of 32 passing attempts for 271 yards.
Keith Wenning hit Willie Snead for two touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters for the Muncie, Indiana-based Cardinals (9-4). Wenning completed 22 of 34 passing attempts for 218 yards. Steven Schott had a 45-yard field goal.
