Suzlon’s Repower Unit Wins 105-Megawatt Turbine Order in Canada

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Repower Systems SE, the German unit of India’s biggest turbine maker Suzlon Energy Ltd., will supply 105 megawatts of wind turbines for six projects that Wpd AG is developing Canada.

Suzlon, based in Pune, India, will also open a Repower factory for rotor blades in Ontario, according to an e-mailed statement today.

Repower is expanding in Canada as the nation promotes wind power to create jobs and boost the economy. Canada ranked sixth for new installed wind capacity last year, adding 1,267 megawatts, according to the Canadian Wind Energy Association. It currently has 6,077 megawatts installed, the group’s website shows.

Repower will provide 51 turbines to Bremen, Germany-based Wpd for the projects in Whittington, Springwood, White Pines, Napier, Sumac Ridge and Fairview. They’ll be built and will begin producing electricity in 2014, and the contract includes a 15-year service and maintenance agreement.
