Polish Next-Day Power Rises as Country Set to Ship More Abroad

Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Polish day-ahead electricity rose as the country was set to increase the amount of electricity it ships abroad.

Next-day power added 2.5 percent to 190.60 zloty ($61.40) a megawatt-hour, exchange data compiled by Bloomberg show.

The country was scheduled to export as much as 1,084 megawatts of electricity to the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden and Slovakia from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. tomorrow. That compares with 364 megawatts at the same time today.

Day-ahead electricity on the coupled markets of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary added 4.9 percent to 53.38 euros ($70.31) a megawatt-hour in a daily auction, according to the countries’ market operators.

The Czech year-ahead contract declined 0.6 percent to 44.90 euros a megawatt-hour, its lowest level since Nov. 2010, broker data show. Polish electricity for 2013 decreased for the first time in five days, falling 0.4 percent to 169.50 zloty a megawatt-hour, according to broker data compiled by Bloomberg.
