Dec. 10 (Bloomberg) -- BAE Systems Plc, Europe’s largest defense company, won a 1.2 billion-pound ($1.9 billion) contract from the U.K. government to build a submarine for the Royal Navy.
BAE will construct the Astute Class submarine in Barrow-in-Furness, northern England, “safeguarding” 3,000 jobs, the Ministry of Defence said today in a statement.
The ministry also said a further 1.5 billion pounds had been committed to building other submarines.
