Dec. 1 (Bloomberg) -- A Kansas City Chiefs player shot himself this morning near Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte said on Twitter.

The unidentified player shot and killed his girlfriend, then drove to the National Football League team’s practice center near Arrowhead Stadium where he shot and killed himself, Kansas City, Missouri, television station KCTV said on its website.

“We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning,” the Chiefs said in a statement. ’’We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.’’

Messages left for the Kansas City Police Department’s Media Unit and NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy weren’t immediately returned.

The Chiefs are scheduled to host the Carolina Panthers tomorrow. The Panthers are still planning to travel to Kansas City, the team said on Twitter.
