Gasoline strengthened in New York Harbor as some regional refineries and loading terminals remained offline after Hurricane Sandy struck Oct. 29.
Seven fuel terminals in New York and New Jersey remained offline as of 8 a.m. in New York today, according to the Energy Department. Two New Jersey refineries with a combined capacity of 308,000 barrels a day are idled.
The premium for reformulated gasoline in New York climbed 7 cents to 30 cents a gallon versus futures traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange at 1:55 p.m., the highest premium since Oct. 2. Prompt delivery rose 5.83 cents to $2.9875 a gallon.
Ultra-low-sulfur diesel gained 2.38 cents to a premium of 19.88 cents above heating oil futures.
