Oct. 17 (Bloomberg) -- New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will undergo surgery Oct. 20 on his left ankle and should make a complete recovery in 4-5 months, the Major League Baseball team said on its website.

Jeter, the Yankees’ 38-year-old captain, was injured chasing down a ground ball during the 12th inning of the team’s 6-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series.

The Tigers lead the best-of-seven series 3-0. Game 4 is tonight.
