Jackson Approves City Water Project Works, Clarion-Ledger Says

Oct. 17 (Bloomberg) -- The city council in Jackson, Mississipi, approved $90 million in water and wastewater upgrades to plants and sewer lines, the Clarion-Ledger said.

The council approved the project by a 5-2 vote following lead contractor Siemens AG’s guarantee that the infrastructure works would pay for themselves through new revenue and energy-savings within 15 years, the newspaper said.

It said work will begin as soon as January on the project, which includes replacing almost two miles of sewer lines, installing meters that report water usage wireless expected to produce about $59 million in revenue and sewage plant upgrades.

As a safeguard, the Mississippi Development Authority will have to approve the contract before it takes effect, the paper said.
