John Bond, Former Man. City and Norwich Manager, Dies at Age 79

Sept. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Former Manchester City and Norwich soccer manager John Bond has died at age 79, the clubs said on their websites.

Premier League champion Man. City said it was “deeply saddened” to hear of the death of Bond, who led the club to the 1981 F.A. Cup final against Tottenham. Spurs won 3-2 in a replay renowned for Ricky Villa’s decisive goal.

Bond also guided Norwich to the 1975 League Cup final, a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

For most of his playing career Bond was a right-back with West Ham, where he won the F.A. Cup in 1964, before moving to Torquay. He also managed clubs including Bournemouth, Burnley and Swansea.

Bond’s son Kevin was assistant to Harry Redknapp at Tottenham and left the club after Redknapp was fired in June.
