Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- India’s monsoon, which accounts for more than 70 percent of annual rainfall, was 5 percent below a 50-year average since June 1, the nation’s weather bureau said.

The nation got 798.3 millimeters of rainfall in the June 1 to Sept. 21 period, the India Meteorological Department said today on its website. That is less than the 843.1 millimeters considered normal for the period, it said.
