Infosys Americas Banking Head Said to Quit to Join Wipro

Sept. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Infosys Ltd.’s head of consulting for financial services in the Americas, the company’s largest services segment, resigned and will join competitor Wipro Ltd.

Shaji Farooq will serve as global head of a new division at Wipro for technologies such as social media, mobility, cloud computing and analytics, said a company official who declined to be identified ahead of an announcement. He will continue to be based in New York, reporting to T.K. Kurien, chief executive officer of Wipro’s IT business in Bangalore, the official said.

Farooq served nearly 11 years as the head of Infosys’s Financial Services Americas unit, according to his LinkedIn profile.

North America contributed 65.1 percent of Infosys’s revenue in the year ended March, and banking and financial services contributed 27.9 percent of revenue that year, according to a fact sheet from the company.

Priyanka Waghre, a spokeswoman for Infosys in Bangalore, declined to comment.
