The average price for regular gasoline in the U.S. rose the most in 16 months in August, AAA, the biggest U.S. motoring organization, said today.
Regular gasoline at the pump climbed 30.8 cents, or 8.7 percent, to $3.829 a gallon, said Michael Green, a spokesman for AAA in Washington. The price rose 9 percent in April 2011.
The increase was the second-highest for the month of August in AAA records going back to 2000, behind August 2005.
Gasoline reached a 2012 high of $3.936 on April 4, then slid to $3.326 on July 1 before gaining in July and August.
