Aug. 23 (Bloomberg) -- At least eight pupils died in a fire at a girls’ boarding school in western Kenya, police said.
The fire broke out at the St. Theresa’s Asumbi Girls’ Primary School at Rangwe, 260 kilometers (162 miles) northwest of the capital, Nairobi, at around 10 p.m. yesterday while they were sleeping, said Samuel Otieno, police commissioner for Homa Bay County.
At least one person was injured in the incident, Otieno said in an interview today. The cause of the fire is being investigated, he said.
