Romania to Have Near-Normal Warmth This Week as Heat Subsides

Romania is expected to have close-to-normal temperatures and localized rainfall in the coming week, ending a heat wave that damaged corn in the European Union’s second-largest grower of the grain.

Temperatures will climb as high as 33 degrees Celsius (91.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in the period through Aug. 20, with average daytime temperatures as high as 26 degrees, close to the climatic average, the National Meteorological Administration wrote in an agro-weather bulletin today.

Available water supply for crops will remain low to very low, with most of the agricultural areas in moderate to extreme drought, the weather office wrote. Temperatures rose as high as 41 degrees Celsius last month, wilting crops including corn.

Crop development for field crops and fruit trees will be hampered by soil-moisture deficits, with undersized fruits and early fruit fall, according to the office.
