Orlando Magic Hire Jacque Vaughn as Coach to Replace Van Gundy

July 28 (Bloomberg) -- Jacque Vaughn was hired as coach of the Orlando Magic as the team deals with disgruntled All-Star center Dwight Howard.

The National Basketball Association club announced the addition of Vaughn in a news release. He succeeds Stan Van Gundy, who was fired in May.

Vaughn, 37, was an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs the last two seasons. He was a guard on the Spurs’ NBA championship team in 2007.

Howard has a year to go on his contract and has told the Magic he wants to be traded, He informed General Manager Rob Hennigan this week that he would leave the Magic as a free agent after the 2012-13 season, ESPN reported.
