Tomlinson to Retire After 9 Seasons With Chargers, 2 With Jets

June 17 (Bloomberg) -- LaDainian Tomlinson, who is fifth on the National Football League career list with 13,684 yards rushing, will retire tomorrow after nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers and two years with the New York Jets.

The Chargers said today that Tomlinson, 32, will re-sign with San Diego and then immediately announce his retirement at a news conference at Chargers Park.

Tomlinson, a three-time All Pro, rushed for 280 yards and one touchdown and had 42 catches for 449 yards and two scores in 2011 in his second season with the Jets.

His 145 touchdowns rushing rank second on the NFL career list, trailing only Emmitt Smith’s 164. He also had 17 touchdowns on receptions.
