Taiwan Stocks: Cando, Catcher Tech, HannsTouch, HTC, TPK Holding

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Taipei. The benchmark Taiex Index climbed 0.8 percent to 7,056.15, the second day of gains.

Touch-panel makers: Cando Corp. (8056 TT) surged 17 percent to NT$10.15, the biggest advance since Dec. 17. HannsTouch Solution Incorporated (3049 TT) increased 3.9 percent to NT$12.10, TPK Holding Co. (3673 TT) jumped 6.9 percent to NT$441.50, while Wintek Corp. (2384 TT), advanced 0.9 percent to NT$16.50. Intel Corp. said yesterday it has deals with the four touch-sensor makers to ensure sufficient supply.

Asustek Computer Inc. (2357 TT), rose 2.6 percent to NT$298.50. The computer maker’s Taichi notebook computer may “offer some upside” to shipments after the device’s potential rollout in the third quarter, said Vincent Chen, a Yuanta Securities Co. analyst.

Catcher Technology Co. (2474 TT), a casing maker, jumped 3.8 percent to NT$190, the highest close since May 29. The company is expected to be a major supplier for Acer Inc.’s new Ultrabook computer model, which uses a unibody aluminum casing, Dennis Chan, a Yuanta analyst, wrote in a note.

HTC Corp. (2498 TT), Asia’s second-largest smartphone maker, climbed 3.2 percent to N$406. The company was rated buy in new coverage at Canaccord Genuity Securities LLC, with a share-price estimate of NT$551.

Simplo Technology Co. (6121 TT), a lithium battery manufacturer, advanced 5.8 percent to NT$209. The company said May sales rose 19.8 percent to NT$4.8 billion ($161 million) from NT$4 billion, according to a statement filed to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
