June 3 (Bloomberg) -- Center-back Gary Cahill was withdrawn from England’s squad for the European Championship after suffering two fractures to his jaw in his country’s final warm-up match.
The Chelsea defender suffered two fractures, one either side of his jaw, in the 1-0 victory against Belgium yesterday at Wembley Stadium in London, English soccer’s Football Association said on its website.
Liverpool defender Martin Kelly will replace Cahill in the squad for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine, subject to agreement from UEFA, European soccer’s governing body.
John Terry had a scan on a hamstring injury and been “given the all clear,” the F.A. said.
England has suffered a series of injuries leading up to Euro 2012, with midfielders Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry among players forced to pull out.
