May 23 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Taipei. The benchmark Taiex Index fell 1.8 percent to 7,147.75.
Laptop makers for Dell Inc.: Compal Electronics Inc. (2324 TT) sank 2.5 percent to NT$31.20. Wistron Corp. (3231 TT) slid 3.1 percent to NT$39.80, the lowest close since Jan. 5.
Dell forecast fiscal second-quarter revenue that missed analysts’ estimates as businesses held off on buying personal computers and smartphones and tablets ate into the company’s sales.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (2330 TT) dropped 3.8 percent to NT$79.10. United Microelectronics Corp. (2303 TT) tumbled 4.5 percent to NT$12.75, the lowest close since Jan. 2. Broad-based demand in the second half for chip foundries is possibly at risk due to rising inventories, capital expenditure and capacity increases, HSBC Holdings Plc analyst Steven Pelayo said by email.
