May 21 (Bloomberg) -- Egypt’s Head of Criminal Investigations Department in the Red Sea was killed in an armed robbery near the city of the Tenth of Ramadan, the Ministry of Interior said in an e-mailed statement today.
General-Brigadier Alaa Abdel Latif was shot in the neck in a clash with bandits on motorbikes who tried to hijack his car, according to the statement. Two other policemen were injured in the clashes, it said.
The public prosecutor was ordered to start investigations aimed at arresting the attackers, according to the statement.
