May 16 (Bloomberg) -- Ukrainian sugar production will fall about 23 percent this year to 1.8 million metric tons, Interfax-Ukraine reported.
Sugar-beet planting in the country dropped to 480,000 hectares (1.2 million acres), compared with 540,000 hectares in 2011, the news agency said today. It cited Oleksandr Demydov, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s markets department.
