Chilean Stocks: Banco Santander, Lan, Masisa, Ripley, Quinenco

The following companies had unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses, and prices are as of the close in Santiago.

The Ipsa index gained 0.2 percent to 4,585.77. The MSCI Chile index dropped 0.1 percent to 2,608.95.

Banco Santander Chile (BSAN CC), the country’s biggest lender, slid 0.2 percent to 38.3 pesos. Santander’s controlling shareholder slumped in Madrid trading along with Spanish equity indexes and the euro as reports showed Spain entered its second recession since 2009.

Lan Airlines SA (LAN CC) fell for the first time in three days, losing 0.7 percent to 13,709 pesos. Latin America’s biggest airline by market value had its recommendation lowered to neutral from buy at Bank of America Corp.

Masisa SA (MASISA CC), a wood panels producer, dropped 0.8 percent to 54.05 pesos. Chile’s manufacturing index rose 0.2 percent in March, the National Statistics Institute said in a report today. The median estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg was for manufacturing to increase 3 percent.

Ripley Corp SA (RIPLEY CC) advanced 0.5 percent to 541 pesos. The department-store operator plans to open 13 new stores in Peru through 2014, Diario Financiero reported today, citing country manager Norberto Rossi.

Quinenco SA (QUINENC CC), a holding company controlled by Chile’s Luksic family, fell the most in three weeks after antitrust authorities blocked its planned purchase of gas stations. The stock slid 1.8 percent to 1,500.10 pesos.
