Thailand Stocks: Nation Multimedia, Siam Commercial, Sahaviriya

April 27 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Thailand trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the 4:30 p.m. close in Bangkok.

The SET Index rose 0.2 percent to 1,211.78, the highest close since July 1996. The gauge gained 1.4 percent this week, its second weekly advance.

Nation Multimedia Group Pcl (NMG TB), a newspaper publisher and television broadcaster, jumped 18 percent to 1.05 baht, the highest close since July 28. Shareholders yesterday approved a proposal to reduce the company’s paid-up capital by 47 percent to 873.3 million baht ($28.3 million) to compensate for accumulated losses of 776.5 million baht, it said in a regulatory filing.

Siam Commercial Samaggi Insurance Pcl (SCSMG TB), a non-life insurer, surged 11 percent to 18.9 baht, the highest close since Oct. 21. Net income in the first quarter climbed 30 percent to 107.1 million baht.

Sahaviriya Steel Industries Pcl (SSI TB), the nation’s largest steel producer, dropped 2.6 percent to 0.76 baht, the steepest decline since April 10. The company plans to sell 1.65 billion baht of convertible bonds, it said in a regulatory filing.
