Rays Top Winless Yankees 8-6; Scott, Joyce Each Drive in 3 Runs

April 8 (Bloomberg) -- Luke Scott drove in three runs as the Tampa Bay Rays handed the winless New York Yankees their second straight loss, 8-6, of Major League Baseball’s 2012 season.

Scott singled home Desmond Jennings and Matt Joyce to give the Rays a 2-0 first inning lead last night at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. He doubled in the sixth to score Ben Zobrist.

Joyce also drove in three with a solo home run in the third for and a two-run single in the seventh as the Rays (2-0) widened their lead to 8-2.

The Yankees (0-2) rallied in the ninth when Raul Ibanez hit a sacrifice fly to score Curtis Granderson, and Nick Swisher had a three-run homer to narrow the gap to two runs.

David Price (1-0) gave up two runs on five hits, with four walks and five strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings for the Rays. Fernando Rodney pitched a third of an inning for his first save of the season.

Hiroki Kuroda (0-1) gave up six runs on eight hits and four walks for the Yankees while striking out two in 5 2/3 innings.
