People’s New Party Dismisses Chief, Yomiuri Says

April 6 (Bloomberg) -- Shizuka Kamei was stripped of his position as leader of Japan’s People’s New Party after he threatened to pull it out of the coalition government to protest a sales tax increase, the Yomiuri newspaper reported.

Shozaburo Jimi, a party member who holds the financial services cabinet post, and five other party officials made the decision yesterday, the Yomiuri newspaper reported. Kamei refused to accept the dismissal, the paper said.

Jimi was named as Kamei’s replacement, according to the report. The party officials also removed Akiko Kamei from her position as party policy chief, it said.
