Canada Says It Won’t Buy F-35 Planes Before New Oversight Rules

Canada said it won’t buy Lockheed Martin Corp.’s F-35 fighter jets until the government establishes new measures to oversee the purchase.

Canada will establish an “F-35 secretariat” within the public works department to oversee the acquisition of the jets, the government said in a statement e-mailed to reporters today. The defence department will be required to provide annual updates to the country’s legislature, according to the statement.
