Chilean Stocks: Cencosud, Ripley Corp and Salfacorp Were Active

March 26 (Bloomberg) -- The following companies had unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Santiago.

The Ipsa index advanced 0.9 percent to 4,659.97. The MSCI Chile index gained 1.4 percent to 2,662.57.

Cencosud SA (CENCOSUD CC) increased 1.8 percent to 3,217 pesos. Chile’s largest retailer by sales rose for a second day after reporting March 23 fourth-quarter net income of 108 billion pesos ($222 million), beating a 99.7 billion-peso average estimate of 11 analysts in a Bloomberg survey.

Cia. Sud Americana de Vapores SA (VAPORES CC), Chile’s largest container shipping company, gained 5.4 percent to 61.88 pesos. The Shanghai Containerized Freight index rose on March 23 for a fifth consecutive week to a record high, a sign of recovery in the maritime transport industry.

Ripley Corp SA (RIPLEY CC) advanced 1 percent to 578.66 pesos. Chile’s third-largest department store operator had full-year 2011 profit of 55.3 billion pesos, an 11 percent increase from 50 billion pesos a year earlier, according to a statement today on the website of Chile’s securities regulator.

Salfacorp SA (SALFACOR CC) jumped 4.2 percent to 1,287 pesos, the most in four months. Chile’s largest construction company hasn’t breached any debt covenants nor does it face imminent payments of guarantees, it said in a statement sent to regulators March 23.
