Chilean Stocks: Cencosud, Paz Corp and Salfacorp Were Active

The following companies had unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Santiago.

The Ipsa index advanced 0.7 percent to 4,617.69. The MSCI Chile index gained 0.6 percent to 2,625.68.

Cencosud SA (CENCOSUD CC) rose 0.8 percent to 3,158.7 pesos, the biggest increase in a week. Chile’s largest retailer by sales posted fourth-quarter profit of 108 billion pesos ($221 million), beating a 99.7 billion-peso average estimate of 11 analysts in a Bloomberg survey. The company also hired JPMorgan Chase & Co, UBS AG and local brokerage Larrain Vial SA as advisers for the sale of $1.6 billion of new shares, Santiago-based newspaper Pulso said.

Paz Corp SA (PAZ CC) fell 3.2 percent to 273.18 pesos, the most since March 6. The Chilean homebuilder’s profit declined 64 percent in 2011, according to a statement posted on the website of Chile’s securities regulator.

Salfacorp SA (SALFACOR CC) retreated 2 percent to 1,234.8 pesos. Chile’s largest construction company said it had no explanation for yesterday’s 8.2 percent fall. The stock dropped 10 percent in the past two days, the steepest two-day decline in five months.
