March 20 (Bloomberg) -- The Los Angeles Lakers plan to exercise a $16.1 million option for the last year of All-Star center Andrew Bynum’s contract, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing General Manager Mitch Kupchak.
The Lakers have until June 30 to exercise their option, the paper said. Bynum, 24, would become a free agent after next season unless he negotiates a contract extension.
Bynum has averaged 18.1 points and 12.9 rebounds this season. In 10 games this month, he’s boosted his averages to 24 points and 13.1 rebounds while shooting 65.7 percent.
