March 13 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Taipei.
The benchmark Taiex Index rose 1.3 percent to 8,031.51, the most since Feb. 29.
Acer Inc. (2353 TT) gained 1.9 percent to NT$43, the biggest advance since March 9. The world’s fourth-largest computer maker said February sales rose 34 percent from a year earlier to NT$37.5 billion.
Cathay Financial Holding Co. (2882 TT) surged 6.9 percent to NT$34.90, the steepest increase since Dec. 23. The island’s largest financial services company is in talks with “several” Chinese banks about investments, Alan Lee, a spokesman for the company said today, declining to name the Chinese lenders it is in talks with.
Evergreen Marine Corp. (2603 TT), part of Asia’s second-largest container shipping line, gained 0.5 percent to NT$20.50. The company, along with Hanjin Shipping Co. and China Cosco Holdings Co., will start joint services on the Asia-Europe trade in April.
