Chicago Blackhawks Defeat New York Rangers 4-3 in Final Minute

Patrick Kane scored a last-minute goal to put the Chicago Blackhawks ahead 4-3 as the team handed the New York Rangers their third straight loss in the National Hockey League.

New York (42-18-7, 91 points) leads the Northeast Division’s Boston Bruins by eight points in the race to be top seed in the playoffs from the Eastern Conference. The Rangers lead the Atlantic Division by four points over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The NHL awards the first three playoff spots to division leaders regardless of their point totals.

Artem Anisimov put the Rangers ahead 1-0 in the final minute of the first period last night at United Center in Chicago. Andrew Shaw evened the score for Chicago (37-24-7, 81 points) in the second period.

After Brandon Prust scored a goal for New York at 7:11 into the final period, Patrick Sharp, Johnny Oduya and Kane answered for the Blackhawks with three goals in six minutes. Brad Richards added to the Rangers’ tally with 41 seconds left.

The Blackhawks, who last defeated the Rangers on home ice on March 7, 2002, stand fourth in the Western Conference’s five-team Central Division, 11 points behind the St. Louis Blues.
