March 1 (Bloomberg) -- Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc., maker of the Opana ER painkiller, plans to change its name to Endo Health Solutions Inc. to reflect that the company’s range of products has expanded
The new name will “reflect the company’s significant transformation,” Chadds Ford Pennsylvania-based Endo said in a statement today.
Endo’s products now include devices, practice management software and both branded and generic drugs after acquisitions including the $2.9 billion purchase of American Medical Systems Holding Inc. announced in April 2011. The company will ask shareholders to approve the new name at its annual shareholder meeting in May.
“We made all these acquisitions in rapid form, so then we had an identity issue,” said Chief Executive Officer David Holveck, in a telephone interview. “You’ve got to say who you are and what you’re trying to deliver.”
This year, the company will focus on growing its new businesses and making sure they all fit together, Holveck said.
