LightSquared Says It Disagrees With U.S. Recommendation to FCC

Feb. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Philip Falcone’s LightSquared Inc. said it disagrees with a U.S. government recommendation about the proposed wireless service. The agency cited by the company said it hadn’t released its findings.

The recommendation from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to the Federal Communications Commission relied on “flawed conclusions” LightSquared said in an e-mailed statement. The company didn’t provide details of the government’s purported recommendation.

The NTIA hasn’t released its letter to the FCC, Moira Vahey, a spokeswoman for the NTIA, said in an e-mail. The agency is advising the FCC, which has final say over whether Reston, Virginia-based LightSquared may begin commercial operations.

A committee representing U.S. agencies on Jan. 13 said LightSquared causes harmful interference to many global-positioning system receivers and there’s no practical solution to allow it to operate soon.
