The Lima General Index gained for the fifth session in six, rising 0.8 percent to 21,048.98. The MSCI All Peru Capped Index climbed 0.6 percent to 2,696.85.
Copper and gold miners surged after the metals advanced in New York and London, said Eduardo Fernandini, a trader at Lima-based brokerage Kallpa Securities SAB.
Alturas Minerals Corp. (ALT PE), a Canadian copper and gold exploration company, rose 10 percent to 11 cents. Panoro Minerals Ltd. (PML PE), a Canadian copper and gold exploration company, jumped 8.8 percent to 62 cents. Candente Copper Corp. (DNT PE), a Canadian exploration company, gained 3.9 percent to $1.06. Rio Alto Mining Ltd. (RIO PE), a Canadian gold miner, advanced 1.9 percent to $3.73 after appointing former Volcan Cia. Minera SAA executive Victor Gobitz as chief operating officer. Minera IRL Ltd. (MIRL PE), a U.K. minerals explorer with a gold mine in Peru, rose 1.8 percent to $1.12. Southern Copper Corp. (SCCO PE), Peru’s biggest copper producer, climbed 1.4 percent to $35.80. The company is expected to publish fourth-quarter earnings this week.
