Jan. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Saracens won 26-20 at Treviso today to top Pool 5 in rugby union’s Heineken Cup and become the only English team to reach the quarterfinals. Edinburgh and Cardiff Blues advanced from Pool 2.
Mouritz Botha and David Strettle got tries for Saracens, with Owen Farrell kicking 16 points. Saracens will host Clermont Auvergne in the quarterfinals.
Edinburgh topped Pool 2 following a 34-11 win against London Irish, with Cardiff through to the next round as one of the two best second-place teams after a 36-30 victory over Racing Metro.
Defending champion Leinster, fellow Irish team Munster, Clermont and Toulouse were also group winners, while Ulster secured the other runner-up spot.
Leinster is aiming to become the second team after Leicester in 2001 and 2002 to win the competition in successive years. Toulouse, Munster and Ulster are the other previous champions still involved.
