Jan. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Eric Atkins, who tied the game in both regulation play and the first overtime, scored six points in the final minute of double overtime to give the University of Notre Dame a 67-65 win over 10th-ranked University of Louisville in college basketball.
Atkins, who ended the game with 15 points, hit his only 3-pointer out of seven attempts with 28 seconds left in the second half to tie the score at 50-50 at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. His free throw with three seconds left tied it at 58-58 in the first overtime.
With 58 seconds left in the second overtime, Atkins hit a jumper to tie the score at 63-63. He scored again 41 seconds later to give the Fighting Irish a 65-63 lead and made two free throws with 10 seconds left to seal the win.
Jack Cooley had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Jerian Grant had 17 points for Notre Dame. Kyle Kuric and Chane Behanan each scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cardinals.
Notre Dame improved to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in the Big East, while Louisville fell to 13-3 and 1-2 in the Big East.
